My friend, Obsidian Goddess, once told me of the importance of having goals in life. Her friend Mel introduced her to the concept of LFTs. LFTs need not be huge or unobtainable goals, but ones that make you want to get up in the morning and give you something to Look Forward To.
My LFTs tend to fall into a few broad categories: things I'd like to learn; things I'd like to try once and things I hope happen in my life.
I'd like to learn how to:
- do a martial art
- play a musical instrument (the bagpipes would be my first choice)
- make pottery on a wheeel
- sword fight
- pole dance
I'd like to try (at least once):
- skydiving
- parasailing
- windsurfing - done August 2010
- regular surfing
- kayaking
- zip line
- have my tarot cards/palm read - done June 2010
- a thirty day yoga challenge - done October 2009
- participating in a drum circle
- ride a Harley Davidson
- bike tour through Europe (pedal &/or motorbike)
- do a point to point walking/hiking trip
- be a published author
- do a century (100 miles) on a pedal bike
- walk a marathon
- sleep the night in a hammock on a beach
- go on a road trip with a friend
- compete in an open water swimming competition
- do a perfect pullup
- make real butter tablet
- win my age group in an athletic competition
Things I hope happen
- make a real difference in someone's life
- have someone call me "Gran"
- deliver another baby (preferably someone I know)
These are the ones on my list today - some of them easily obtainable with a bit of effort, some of them - maybe I'll never get to do. But you know what? They keep me looking forward to life.
