The Truth About Shoes

Did you know there are only two types of shoes? I always thought there were runners and flats and heels and wedges and... you get the idea.

According to my fashionista friend Traci - I'm so WRONG! The only two types of shoes are "Standers" and "Sitters". Standers are those you can walk in. Sitters are very attractive as long as you are sitting down. Once you try to walk in them - the anguish on your face mars their beauty.

While climbing the Great Wall of China you spend a lot of time looking at the feet of the person in front of you on the steep sections. While seeing red spots in my eyes from lack of oxygen I decided to distract myself by looking for the most inappropriate shoes on the Wall. This is the winning pair! Yes, those are my friend Leslie's arms pointing ever so subtly at the shoes. It's not the greatest of pictures - but they are 3" stiletto heeled boots.




Of course - this has now become a holiday tradition.

While climbing Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland, my friend Leslie played “Who is wearing the most inappropriate shoes for this excursion?”. While she spotted many fine contestants, the woman with 3 inch stilettos with open toes clearly won by a mile! (Sorry though, Leslie isn't as brave (or rude) as I am - she didn't take a picture).

While in Vancouver, at the Capilano suspension bridge the winner was...
